Christmas is often one of the best times of the year, especially if you have kids because it’s so magical for them. However, to ensure you have a cool, calm, and collected Christmas as an adult, it’s a good idea to get ahead of the many tasks that crop up during the festive season. Fortunately, you can find out which tasks are the most important and why in my post below.
Buy and wrap Christmas gifts
First of all, if you want a chilled-out Christmas having all your gifts bought and wrapped is essential. After all, no one wants to be up until 4 am on Christmas morning wrapping gifts when they could be tucked up in the cozy bed, getting plenty of sleep so they can enjoy the next day.
Happily, there are many tactics you can use to get ahead of Christmas gift buying and wrapping such as starting early (October), shopping online, and ordering gifts ready-wrapped. It can also be very useful to have different storage bags or bins to keep gifts for the same group of people organized. Oh, and writing the name of the person directly onto the wrapping instead of using tags which can get detached can prevent confusion over whose gift is whose when you come to give them out!
Shop for Christmas food
Another task that it’s crucial to get ahead of before Christmas is shopping for festive food. Indeed, for many people the food is the best part of Christmas, so you’ll want to make sure you get it right.
Adding dry goods, and other non-fresh items to your grocery shopping each week in the month ahead of Christmas can help you spread the cost. While making sure you get the protein for your Christmas dinner ordered from your local provider, well ahead of time is always a wise move.
Get your house ready for guests
The festive season often means lots of celebrating and entertaining at home, and with that in mind, making sure your property is ready for the influx of guests well ahead of the Christmas period can help relieve a lot of stress.
Be sure to address any structural issues like damaged or dented drywall before you move on to freshen up the wallpaper or paint in your home. You can even recruit a Drywall Repair professional to complete this type of work for you. The benefit of this is that they will get it fixed quickly and with less mess, and you can dedicate your effort to the other tasks you need to complete to get your home up to scratch.
Plan your Christmas calendar
There is often so much to do over the Christmas period, from parties to the kid’s school plays, to spending time with family and volunteering. To ensure things don’t become too overwhelming it can be very sensible to take some time to plan out your calendar and ensure you have some chill-out days as well.
In particular, the time between Christmas and New Year is ideal for this as the kids will have their new gifts to keep them occupied and you can all relax at home with a great Christmas movie.
